比較1

Ken is taller than Yumi. ケンはユミより背が高い。　　　　　　　　　　　　 　　「〜より・・・」　比較級の文
Ken is the tallest in our school. ケンは私たちの学校で最も背が高い。　「〜の中で最も・・・」　最上級の文
Ken is as tall as Mark. ケンはマークと同じくらい背が高い。　　　　　　　　　「〜と同じくらい・・・」　原級の文

形容詞(tall, big, happyなど)や副詞(fast, earlyなど)は比較級、最上級といった形に変化します。変化していない元の形が原級です。これらをつかって他のものと比べる言い方をするのが比較の文です。

(1) 比較級、最上級への変化

変化の仕方　　・・・つづりの短い単語と長い単語で変化の仕方が違います。
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　またどちらにも当てはまらない不規則変化をする単語もあります。
　つづりの短い単語(big, early, easy, fast, largeなど)・・・比較級は語尾にerを,最上級は語尾に estをつけます。
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　bigger biggest, earlier earliest, easier easiest, faster fastest, larger largest
　つづりの長い単語(beautiful, famous, popular, slowlyなど)・・・比較級は前にmore, 最上級は前にmostをおきます。
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　more beautiful most beautiful, more slowly most slowly
　不規則な変化・・・(1) goodとwell 比較級better, 最上級best　　(2) little 比較級less 最上級 least
　　　　　　　　　　　　　(3) manyとmuch　比較級more 最上級most

　※つづりの短い単語で注意するもの
　　　hot やbigなど「短母音＋子音字」で終わるものは最後の子音字を重ねます　hotter hottest
　　　happy, early など「母音+y」で終わるものはyをiに変えます happier happiest
　※細かい規則もありますが、短い単語か長い単語か迷うようなものはひとつずつおぼえたほうが良いでしょう。

(2)　比較級の文　「〜より…」　比較級＋than〜

　形容詞の文　　Ken is tall.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　副詞の文　　Ken runs fast.
　　　　　　　　　　　Ken is taller than Mark.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Ken runs faster than Mark.
　形容詞、副詞を比較級に変化させて比べる相手を　than 〜で表して文尾に置きます。
　元の文を考えてから変化させるようにすると間違いが少なくなります。　　　

例文エのように比べる相手をいう必要の無い場合は「than〜」を省略することもある。
　

(3) 最上級の文「〜の中でもっとも…」　the 最上級＋of (またはin）〜

　形容詞の文　　Ken is tall.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　副詞の文　　Ken runs fast.
　　　　　　　　　　　Ken is the tallest of the three.　　　　　　　　　　　　　Ken runs (the) fastest of the three.
　　　　　　　　　　　Ken is the tallest in our school. 　　　　　　　　　　　Ken runs ( the) fastest in our school.
　最上級の文で「〜の中で」をあらわす　前置詞は「of 〜」　または「in〜」です。
　of の後ろに来るのは
　of the three, of the five など「the　+ 数字」またはof all animals, of all studentsなど「all ＋複数名詞」です。
　inの後ろに来るのは
　in Japan, in Tokyoなどの場所、または in my school, in my family などの組織です。
　※　形容詞の最上級の前にはtheが必要です。副詞の場合はtheをつけなくてもかまいません。

(4) 原級の文　「〜とおなじくらい…」　as 原級 as〜

　形容詞の文　Ken is tall. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　副詞の文　Ken runs fast.
　　　　　　　　　Ken is as tall as Tom. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Ken runs as fast as Mark.
　同じくらいを表す原級の文では形容詞、副詞の前にasをつけ、もう一つのasは比べる相手の前につけて文尾に置きます。
原級の文を否定文にした場合
　「〜ほど・・・ではない。」という意味を表し比較級の文でほぼ同じ意味を作ることができます。
